  1. First of all download virtualdub from www.sourceforge.com
  2.  
  3. You will also need a divx codec, if you don't have one I suggest
  4. nimo codec pack it can be found at www.divx-digest.com and do a full
  5. install of it
  6.  
  7. If you already have a divx codec you may need divfix which is included
  8. in the nimo codec pack along with many other nice tools...if you don't
  9. wanna get the pack you can get divfix at www.divx-digest.com
  10.  
  11. Now that you have all your tools you can go to work
  12.  
  13. 1. run divfix, open the AVI that you are having trouble with and click
  14.    rebuild index, when it finishes you can close divfix
  15.  
  16. 2. try playing the movie in windows media player (wmp) again
  17.  
  18. 3. if it still doesn't have any video, open virtualdub
  19.  
  20. 4. Now click file>open video file, and choose your troubled file
  21.  
  22. 5. then go to video and choose direct stream copy
  23.  
  24. 6. under audio, direct stream coopy should be selected if it isn't
  25.    choose it
  26.  
  27. 7. now go to file>save avi and choose the name and location of where
  28.    you want to store the file
  29.  
  30. 8. now it'll take up to 5 minutes or so to reencode, if you want to
  31.    still do things with your computer change it from normal to idle
  32.    priority in the status window
  33.  
  34. 9. once it's done encoding, locate the avi you just made and play it
  35.    with wmp
  36.
